Did you know?
The Heart is owned and managed by the community.
Heart of Newhaven Community is a Scottish Incorporated Charity (SCIO) and we have 2 tiers.
What does that mean?
We have a Board of Trustees elected by, and accountable to, a wider body of ordinary members at an Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Membership is free.
Members have ultimate control. Many funders like to see this as it is more democratic and representative of community interests.
It is therefore really important that we continue to increase our membership and show that we are supported by an increasing number of our community.
We currently have 421 members Can you help us to double this by the end of this year?
Could you be a member?
Ordinary Members live within the designated Area of Benefit and have the right to vote at general meetings and to stand for election as Charity Trustees.
Associate Members live outside the Area of Benefit and do not have the right to vote at general meetings or to stand for election as Charity Trustees.
Junior Members are aged between 12 and 15. They can vote at general meetings, but cannot stand for election.
What is our Area of Benefit?
Our constitution includes details of our geographic area (Area of Benefit). This stretches from the edge of Leith (Citadel Place) to the edge of Granton (Granton Road), and Ferry Road to Edinburgh Tabernacle, the other boundary being the Firth of Forth.
